There are many kinds of artificial graphite and different production processes. In a broad sense, all graphite materials obtained by carbonization of organic matters and treated by high temperature after being treated with graphite can be collectively referred to as artificial graphite.In the narrow sense, artificial graphite usually refers to the massive solid materials prepared by batching.

    The electrical conductivity of artificial graphite is higher than that of general non-metallic ores, and the thermal conductivity exceeds that of steel, iron, lead and other metal materials. Even at extremely high temperatures, artificial graphite becomes an insulating body.

    Artificial graphite is derived from coal and petrochemical by-products, which is made of coal tar, bitumen or residue oil, a by-product of petroleum or coal chemical industry, which is made into needle petroleum coke by delayed coking, and is made by granulation and graphitization.

    Advantages of artificial graphite conductivity

    (1) Faster processing speed: under normal circumstances, the machining speed of artificial graphite can be 2~5 times faster than copper; The EDM speed is 2~3 times faster than copper;

    (2) Light weight: the density of artificial graphite is only 1/5 of copper, and the burden of machine tools can be effectively reduced when large electrodes are subjected to EDM; Suitable for applications on large molds.

    (3) The material is not easy to deform: it has obvious advantages in the processing of thin rib electrodes; The softening point of copper is about 1000 degrees, which is easy to deform due to heat; The sublimation temperature of artificial graphite is 3650 degrees; The coefficient of thermal expansion is only 1/30 of copper.

    (4) Small discharge consumption; Since spark oil also contains C atoms, during electric discharge processing, high temperature causes C atoms in spark oil to be decomposed out, and a protective film is formed on the surface of artificial graphite electrodes, which compensates for the loss of artificial graphite electrodes.

    The role of artificial graphite

    (1) Artificial graphite is safe and stable, is an environmentally friendly material, and does not produce pollution during application. There is no corrosive effect on molds and parts. Compared with other materials, artificial graphite is cheaper, which is an important reason for the popularity of artificial graphite. By choosing this material, the mold cost and lubrication release cost are greatly reduced.

    (2)The role of artificial graphite is mainly to improve the service life of the mold and the quality of forgings, which can be coated on the surface of a variety of substrates and dried at room temperature.After drying, the cured layer has stable performance under high temperature and high vacuum conditions, has no corrosion effect on metal, and has moderate adhesion.

    (3) Artificial graphite can be used as an additive in the vacuum coating process. It is coated on the vacuum coater evaporation pool baffle and the wall, so that the aluminum vapor can be directly condensed on the artificial graphite layer, and it is easy to remove when the deposited aluminum reaches a certain thickness.

    (4) Artificial graphite can be used as a coolant in tungsten wire drawing in the manufacture of electronic materials. Artificial graphite can be used as an anti-sticking, mold release agent at high temperatures in the machinery manufacturing industry.

    Potential applications for artificial graphite

    (1) Because the chemical properties of graphite are very stable, graphite can be used as pencil leads, pigments, polishes, etc., and words written in graphite can be preserved for a long time.

    (2) Graphite has the property of high temperature resistance, so it can be used as a refractory material, for example: the crucible used in the metallurgical industry is made of graphite.

    (3) Graphite can be used as conductive materials, such as: carbon rods in the electrical industry, positive electrodes of mercury positive flowers, brushes, etc. are all made of graphite.
