It is an aggregate of amorphous graphite. The crystal form can be seen only under the electron microscope. Amorphous graphite ore is gray black and steel gray, generally dull, with dense massive, earthy, layered, and lamellar structures. This kind of graphite lacks luster, its lubricity is lower than that of flake graphite, and its selectivity is poor. However, the grade is high, the carbon content is generally 60% ~ 80%, a few are up to more than 90%, the ash content is 15% ~ 22%, the volatile content is 1% ~ 2%, and the moisture content is 2% ~ 7%.

The layered structure and chemical bond characteristics of graphite determine its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, plasticity, chemical stability, lubricity and high temperature resistance, etc., will be divided into crystalline graphite and amorphous graphite. Franli’s factory through purification methods, applications and other methods to distinguish the difference between the two, found different uses in different fields. Amorphous graphite refers to a collection of microcrystalline graphite with a crystal diameter of less than 1μm. Compared with crystalline graphite, amorphous graphite has the characteristics of concentrated ore body, high grade and easy development, and has great application potential

    Methods for distinguishing amorphous graphite

    (1) Purification method: crystalline graphite has good natural floatability, and the flotation method is basically used in Franli’s factory for beneficiation. Since the size of graphite flakes is one of its most important quality indicators, the process of multi-stage grinding and multiple sorting is adopted in the selection method to select large flake graphite as soon as possible. Amorphous graphite particles are usually embedded in clay, and the extracted ore is directly crushed, but the production is discontinued because the cost is too high. At present, some factories are still conducting research on new processes for microcrystalline graphite flotation, and the use of high-temperature purification can remove more impurities and be more widely used.

    (2) Application path: large flake graphite in crystalline graphite can be used to prepare expandable graphite and graphene, fine flake graphite in crystalline graphite is currently mainly used in metallurgical materials, battery materials (fluorine graphite lithium fluorine batteries, lithium-ion battery anode materials, high-energy battery cathode conductive agents), colloidal graphite and polymer composite materials and other fields. The traditional use of amorphous graphite is the production of pencils, charcoal rods, refractories and casting.

    (3) Carbon content: the carbon content of amorphous graphite is generally 60~85%. A few up to 90% or more. The fixed carbon content of crystalline graphite is generally low, mostly 3%~13.5%.

    Applications of amorphous graphite

    (1) Casting industry: Graphite is coated on the surface of the solid, which can form a smooth film with firm adhesion, which is a good casting film release agent. It is an indispensable ingredient for fuel, electrode paste, pencils, electrodes, batteries, graphite emulsions, desulfurizers and other products.

    (2) Metallurgical industry: Graphite for recarburiser in steelmaking is still one of the main uses of earthy graphite in the world. As a result, the melting loss of carbon in the iron solution increases, resulting in a decrease in the carbon content in the iron solution.

    (3) Corrosion-resistant materials: the use of amorphous graphite to make utensils, pipelines and equipment, can resist the corrosion of various corrosive gases and liquids, widely used in petroleum, chemical, metallurgical and other fields of equipment.

    (4) Improved performance: As a non-metallic filler with excellent performance, amorphous graphite plays a unique role in rubber materials. At present, the Franli company has conducted in-depth research on improving the wear resistance, thermal conductivity and gas barrier properties of rubber materials.

Through comparison, it is found that crystalline graphite is superior to other types of graphite in terms of floatability, lubricity and plasticity. The vast majority of amorphous stone is graphite carbon, chemically stable, not affected by strong acids and alkalis. At present, because amorphous graphite has a significant role in the industrial field, can reduce some metal materials, the demand for amorphous graphite is gradually increasing. The Franli company can provide high-quality amorphous graphite at the right price, you can contact us if needed.
