Petroleum coke, as a byproduct of petroleum, is produced in the process of petroleum processing, that is, the crude oil is distilled to separate light and heavy oil, and the heavy oil is converted into petroleum coke by hot cracking. If petroleum coke can be obtained directly from petroleum processing, then the petroleum coke is raw coke or ordinary coke. Petroleum coke has irregular shape, dark gray or black, porous structure and metallic luster.

Petroleum coke is a combustible solid product made from petroleum residue and petroleum asphalt. The characteristic of delayed coking is that the residue passes through the furnace tube of the heating furnace at a high flow rate. The residue is heated to about 500 ℃ and immediately enters the coking tower tens of meters high. The residue is brought in by itself in the coking tower. During the coking reaction, a large amount of vapor-liquid products are discharged from the tower top, and the remaining coke accounts for 10% – 20% of the residual oil in the tower.

 

Petroleum Coke

The delayed coking unit is generally equipped with two coking towers in the heating furnace, and the remaining oil heated to the specified temperature enters one of the two coking towers. When coke forms and accumulates to a certain height of the coking tower, the thermal residue will be switched to another coking tower. In the vapor-liquid product recovery and fractionation system outside the coking tower, it is continuous production. Of two coking towers, only one is in a coking production state. The other is carbonized or ready. The coking time of the residue in the coking tower is about 24 hours. The processing capacity of each tower is different according to the nature and circulation ratio of the residue.

Petroleum Coke

The coke generated in the tower is cut and discharged by hydraulic coke removal equipment. The raw materials of delayed coking mainly include vacuum residue, secondary processing residue, and sometimes crude oil is used directly. The quality of petroleum coke is first related to the composition and characteristics of crude oil or residue. The properties of various crude oils are different, so the properties of the residue obtained by distillation are also different, that is, the properties of the residue of the same crude oil are also very different after different treatment units. Most of the delayed coking raw materials in China are vacuum residue, whose density is less than 1 and its coking value is small. Due to the high content of gum and asphaltene and low content of aromatics in vacuum residue, honeycomb or sponge structure (and a small amount of low-grade needle coke) is formed in the cooking process, so the resistance of petroleum coke after graphitization is low. The high thermal expansion rate and high thermal expansion coefficient. Petroleum coke takes heavy oil or other heavy oil as raw material, distills in high flow furnace through 500 ℃ ± 1 ℃ heating furnace, carries out cracking and condensation reaction in a coke drum, and then cools for a period to produce petroleum coke.
