Low ash content and low boiler ash discharge, etc.

Application

Depending on its quality, petroleum coke can be used in industries such as graphite, smelting and chemical industry, etc

Petroleum coke, as a byproduct of petroleum, is produced in the process of petroleum processing, that is, the crude oil is distilled to separate light and heavy oil, and the heavy oil is converted into petroleum coke by hot cracking. If petroleum coke can be obtained directly from petroleum processing, then the petroleum coke is raw coke or ordinary coke. Petroleum coke has irregular shape, dark gray or black, porous structure and metallic luster.

Petroleum coke can be used in different industries. Petroleum coke used as fuel in power plants and cement plants needs high calorific value and good grindability; For petroleum coke is used as raw material in aluminum plants, steel plants, or carbon plants, whether as raw material for anode paste and artificial graphite electrode or as raw material for carbide production, its sulfur content and the volatile matter shall be controlled. For petroleum coke used as raw material for electrode production, the metal content shall also be controlled.

Petroleum Coke

According to the different sulfur content, it can be divided into high sulfur coke (more than 3% sulfur content) and low sulfur coke (less than 3% sulfur content). Low sulfur coke can be used as anode paste and prebaked anode for aluminum plants and graphite electrode for steel and iron plant. Among them, high-quality low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 0.5%) can be used to produce graphite electrodes and carburizing agents. Low sulfur coke of general quality (sulfur content less than 1.5%) is often used to produce prebaked anode. Low quality (low sulfur) petroleum coke is mainly used for smelting industrial silicon and producing anode paste. High sulfur coke is generally used as fuel for cement plants and power plants.

Petroleum coke with low sulfur content can be used as raw material for making electrodes in smelters. The carbon plant uses petroleum coke to produce anode paste for the aluminum plant and graphite electrode for the steel and iron plant.

Petroleum Coke

The sulfur content of petroleum coke affects the use of coke and the quality of carbon products made from coke. Especially in the manufacture of graphite electrodes, the sulfur content is a more important index. Too high sulfur content will directly affect the quality of graphite electrodes and steelmaking. Under a high temperature above 500 ℃, the sulfur in the graphite electrode will be decomposed. Too much sulfur will expand the electrode crystal, resulting in the shrinkage of the electrode and cracks. In serious cases, the electrode can be scrapped. In the production of graphite electrodes, the sulfur content of Petroleum Coke will affect power consumption. The power consumption of petroleum coke with a sulfur content of 1.0% is about 9% more per ton than that of petroleum coke with a sulfur content of 0.5%. When petroleum coke is used as the raw material of anode paste, its sulfur content also has a significant impact on power consumption.
