It is an aggregate of amorphous graphite. The crystal form can be seen only under the electron microscope. Amorphous graphite ore is gray black and steel gray, generally dull, with dense massive, earthy, layered, and lamellar structures. This kind of graphite lacks luster, its lubricity is lower than that of flake graphite, and its selectivity is poor. However, the grade is high, the carbon content is generally 60% ~ 80%, a few are up to more than 90%, the ash content is 15% ~ 22%, the volatile content is 1% ~ 2%, and the moisture content is 2% ~ 7%.

Amorphous graphite is widely used in casting coatings, oil field drilling, battery carbon rods, steel, casting materials, refractories, dyes, fuels, electrode paste, and as ingredients for pencils, electrodes, batteries, graphite emulsions, desulfurizes, preservatives, antiskid agents, smelting carburizing agents, ingot mold powder, graphite bearings, and other products. Its most common uses are three: first, mix a certain amount of soil (the main component of silica) and press it into a pencil lead; Second, as a lubricant for some mechanical devices or industrial production; Third, as the electrode of electrolysis, electroplating or battery; In addition, it is also the raw material for the artificial graphite of various other allotropic bodies (such as footballene, diamond and carbon nanotubes).
When it is used as carburizing agent, steel mills call it graphite ball or amorphous graphite carburizing agent when purchasing. 50% of iron and steel enterprises use amorphous graphite with C ≥ 80%, and other manufacturers use C: 83, 85, and 86%. The particle sizes used are more diversified, including 10-30mm, 20-50mm spherical, and 1-3mm, 1-5mm, 3-6mm, and 3-15mm granular materials. The monthly purchase volume is also adjusted according to the specific needs of production. The high monthly consumption is more than 100 tons, and the low consumption is 5 tons and 10 tons. However, most iron and steel enterprises do not use amorphous graphite as a carburizing agent. It is understood that amorphous graphite emits severe smoke in the steelmaking process. At the same time, the carbon content is low and the price does not have much advantage.
Recently, SINOSURE investigated the market of amorphous graphite carburizing agents. The index is C ≥ 80%, s ≤ 0.3% and the quotation of amorphous graphite carburizing agent with a particle size of 1-5mm is maintained at 2100-2400 yuan/ton (ex-factory tax included). The overall supply of goods is still in short supply, and the price is high and running normally.
At present, the operating rate of mines is not high, the raw ore price of mines in Hunan continues to rise, and the mines in Shaanxi are at a standstill. In addition, the import of foreign graphite is blocked, and the supply of goods in the overall site is tight, which plays a certain role in boosting the price of amorphous graphite.
In terms of steel mills, the demand in Hebei, Shandong, Guangdong, and other places has an increasing trend, but due to the tight price and supply of goods, the steel bidding price is lower than the psychological expectation, the platform inquiry increases, and the prices of both supply and demand sides are still deadlocked.
