Definition

Artificial graphite, as the name suggests, is graphite made by artificial methods.

There are many ways to make artificial graphite. The common way is to use powdery high-quality calcined petroleum coke as the main raw material, add asphalt as the binder, and then add a small amount of other auxiliary materials. After all kinds of raw materials are combined, they are pressed into shape and then treated at 2500 ~ 3000 ℃ in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to graphitize.

Artificial-Graphite
Classification and use

1. Graphite electrodes

It is mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke as raw materials and coal tar pitch as binder through calcination, proportioning, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining. It is a conductor that releases electric energy in the form of an electric arc to heat and melt the furnace charge. According to its quality index, it can be divided into ordinary power, high power, and ultra-high power. The graphite electrode comprises:

(1) Common power graphite electrode. A graphite electrode with a current density of less than 17a / cm2 is allowed, which is mainly used in ordinary power electric furnaces for steelmaking, silicon smelting, and yellow phosphorus smelting.

(2) Oxidation-resistant coating graphite electrode. The graphite electrode is coated with an anti-oxidation protective layer to form a protective layer that can conduct electricity and resist high-temperature oxidation, so as to reduce the electrode consumption in steelmaking.

(3) High power graphite electrode. A graphite electrode with a current density of 18 ~ 25A / cm2 is allowed. It is mainly used in high-power electric arc furnaces for steelmaking.

(4) Ultra-high power graphite electrode. A graphite electrode with a current density greater than 25A / cm2 is allowed. It is mainly used in ultra-high power EAF.

2. Graphite anode

It is mainly made of petroleum coke as raw material and coal tar pitch as a binder by calcination, proportioning, kneading, pressing, calcination, impregnation, graphitization, and machining. It is generally used as a conductive anode of electrolysis equipment in the electrochemical industry. include:

(1) Various chemical anode plates.

(2) Various anode rods.

3. Special graphite

It is mainly made of high-quality petroleum coke as raw material and coal tar pitch or synthetic resin as binder through raw material preparation, proportioning, kneading, tablet pressing, crushing, kneading, molding, multiple roasting, multiple soaking, purification, graphitization, and machining. Generally used in aerospace, electronics, nuclear industry.

It includes spectral pure graphite, high purity, high strength, high density, and pyrolytic graphite.

4. Graphite heat exchanger

The artificial graphite is processed into the required shape and then impregnated and solidified with resin. It is a heat exchange equipment based on artificial impermeable graphite. It is mainly used in the chemical industry. include:

(1) Block hole heat exchanger;

(2) Radial heat exchanger;

(3) Falling film heat exchanger;

(4) Tubular heat exchanger.

5. Nonstandard products

It refers to all kinds of special-shaped graphite products made from graphite products after further processing. Including shovel type anode, fluorine anode, and various specifications of the crucible, plate, rod, block, and other shaped products.

6. Impermeable graphite

It refers to all kinds of graphite profiles made by impregnation and processing of resin and various organic substances, including the base block of the heat exchanger.
