Natural flake graphite has superior physical and chemical properties and is widely used in metallurgy, coatings and refractory industries. It is an important non-metallic raw material that is indispensable for today’s high-tech. Flake graphite is divided into large flake graphite and fine flake graphite according to the size of its scales. Usually, large flakes refer to +32 mesh, +50 mesh, +80 mesh, and +100 mesh flake graphite.

Flake graphite is well integrated into high temperature resistant heavy-duty anti-corrosion coatings, making full use of the high-temperature resistance, chemical stability, electrical and thermal conductivity, lubricity, plasticity, and thermal shock resistance of graphite flakes.

There are a variety of coatings on the market, which can be said to be diverse, and anti-corrosion coatings are an essential part of coatings. Anti-corrosion coatings include conventional anti-corrosion coatings and heavy anti-corrosion coatings. The heavy-duty anticorrosive coating is a kind of anticorrosive coating that can be applied in a relatively harsh corrosive environment and has a longer protection period than conventional anti-corrosive coating. Commonly used are epoxy resin anticorrosive coating, polyurethane anticorrosive coating, zinc-rich resin anticorrosive coating, water-based anti-corrosive coating, rubber coating, aluminum alloy coating, inorganic zinc silicon coating, flake heavy anticorrosive coating, etc.

Advantages of flake graphite in coating application

Our flake graphite applied in coating has bunch of good characteristics.

High-temperature resistance: in the vacuum environment, the melting point of flake graphite is 3850 ℃ and the boiling point is 4250 ℃. Even after high-temperature arc burning, the weight loss of flake graphite is very small and the coefficient of thermal expansion is very small. The strength of flake graphite increased with the increase of temperature. When the temperature increased to 2000 ℃, the strength of flake graphite doubled. Therefore, the coating containing flake graphite can withstand high temperature, and after high temperature, the strength of the coating will be stronger.

Conductivity: the conductivity of flake graphite is more than 100 times that of other ordinary non-metallic materials. Graphite can conduct electricity because each carbon atom in graphite forms only three covalent bonds with the other three carbon atoms, and each carbon atom still retains one free electron to move freely. Because of the conductivity of flake graphite, the disadvantage of increasing electrochemical corrosion caused by the accumulation of positive and negative charges of liquid or gas during flow is reduced.

Thermal conductivity: the thermal conductivity of graphite is 151 w / (m · K), which far exceeds the thermal conductivity of some metals such as steel, iron, and lead. The thermal conductivity of flake graphite is mainly due to the violent movement of free atoms and energy transfer. Due to the thermal conductivity of flake graphite, the coating will not cause delamination and cracking due to temperature change, which reflects the good thermal shock resistance of the coating.

Lubricity: flake graphite is soft and greasy. The lubricity of flake graphite depends on the size of the graphite flake. The larger the flake, the smaller the friction coefficient, and the better the lubrication performance. It has been applied to some coatings and played a good role in reducing wear.

Chemical stability: flake graphite is fish scale, layered structure, belonging to hexagonal crystal system, with complete crystallization, thin flake, good flexibility, and regular structure, which is easier to form a tight fit arrangement. The particle size of Zhisheng Weihua coating is 0.15 * 10-3mm, which is very small. Compared with the particle size of glass flakes of 0.1-3.2mm, it is less prone to overhead, holes, and other defects.

According to flake graphite’s excellent properties in coating industry, we have export this type of graphite suitable for coating,  for many years. Our product quality and adaptation is superior to  majority of other manufactures in our region.
