Graphite powder is a widely used industrial material, which is obtained from high-purity graphite after crushing, grinding, and screening. The classification of graphite powder is mainly based on the particle size, ranging from 50 mesh to 30000 mesh. The larger the mesh, the finer the particle size, and the higher the price.

Graphite powder is made of graphite by mechanical crushing. According to the degree of crushing, it can be divided into fine graphite powder, nano graphite powder, and so on. Graphite powder has stable chemical and physical properties, has obvious lubrication performance, and is not affected by strong acid and alkali. It has high-temperature resistance, conductivity, heat transfer, and plasticity. It has a good application in industrial production.

Graphite powder is soft, black gray; It is greasy and can pollute the paper. The hardness is 1 ~ 2, and the hardness can increase to 3 ~ 5 with the increase of impurities in the vertical direction. The specific gravity is 1.9 ~ 2.3. Under the condition of isolating oxygen, its melting point is above 3000 ℃, which is one of the minerals resistant to high temperature.

Graphite powder has a parameter mesh, which indicates the size of graphite powder particles. The larger the mesh, the finer the particles. Mesh refers to the number of empty holes on the screen per square inch. 50 mesh refers to 50 holes per square inch, and 500 mesh is 500. The higher the mesh, the more holes. In addition to indicating the hole of the screen, it is also used to indicate the particle size of particles that can pass through the screen.

Graphite Powder

The higher the mesh, the smaller the particle size. 200 mesh = 74um = 0.074 mm. The mesh number of graphite powder is generally 100 mesh ~ 20000 mesh. Fine graphite powder has the characteristics of uniform particle size and high carbon content and has played a great role in industrial lubrication. The mesh number of fine graphite powder is 2000 mesh, 3000 mesh, 5000 mesh, 80000 mesh, 10000 mesh, etc. The particle size of fine graphite powder is 1.3 microns, which is very close to the particle size of nano graphite powder. Fine graphite powder is also often used as a lubricant in the machinery industry because the lubricating oil can not be used under the conditions of high speed, high temperature, and high pressure, while fine graphite powder can work without lubricating oil at a very high sliding speed, play the role of lubrication, high-temperature resistance and ensure the normal operation of the machinery.

Graphite powder can be used in plastics, rubber, resin, coatings, lubricants, greases, etc. in different production fields, it can play the role of high-temperature resistance, conductivity, lubrication, corrosion resistance, and so on.

At room temperature, the chemical properties of graphite powder are relatively stable and insoluble in water, dilute acid, dilute alkali, and organic solvents; React with oxygen at different high temperatures to produce carbon dioxide or carbon monoxide; In halogen, only fluorine can react directly with elemental carbon; Graphite powder is easily oxidized by acid under heating; At high temperature, it can also react with many metals to form metal carbides, which can be smelted at high temperature.

How to detect the concentration of graphite powder after purchasing graphite powder, you can use the following four steps to detect the purity of graphite powder.

1. Weigh two graphite powder samples with a precision electronic scale, 1g each, put them into a double cover porcelain crucible and graphite boat with known weight, bake them in a 105 ℃ drying oven to balance weight, and record the weight of graphite powder G1 and G2 respectively

2. Put the double cover porcelain crucible containing graphite powder into the high-temperature furnace, count it for 7 minutes with a stopwatch at a constant temperature of 950 ℃, take it out, cool it in the dryer to room temperature, and weigh the weight of graphite powder G3

3. The graphite boat containing graphite powder is kept at 950 ℃ in a high-temperature furnace for 90 minutes, and then the graphite powder is taken out and cooled to room temperature. At this time, the weight of the material is the weight of ash G4

4. Firstly, the volatile content V (%) = (g1-g3) / G1 of graphite powder is calculated × 100%, thus the formula for calculating the purity of graphite powder C (%) = [(g2-v-g4) / G2] × 100%.

Graphite Powder

As a chemical raw material, graphite powder is indispensable in modern industry. The uses of graphite powder are as follows:

1. As refractory: graphite and its products have the properties of high-temperature resistance and high strength. It is mainly used to manufacture graphite crucibles in the metallurgical industry. Graphite is commonly used as the protective agent of steel ingots and the lining of metallurgical furnaces in steelmaking.

2. As conductive material: in the electrical industry, it is used as the cathode of the electrode, brush, carbon rod, carbon tube and mercury positive current device, graphite gasket, telephone parts, coating of the TV picture tube, etc.

3.As lubricating material: graphite is often used as a lubricant in the machinery industry. The lubricating oil can not be used under the conditions of high speed, high temperature, and high pressure, while graphite material can work without lubricating oil at a very high sliding speed at the temperature of (I) 200 ~ 2000 ℃. Many types of equipment conveying corrosive media are widely made of graphite materials, such as piston cups, sealing rings, and bearing. They do not need to add lubricating oil during operation. Graphite emulsion is also a good lubricant for many metal processing (wire drawing and pipe drawing).

  1. It is used as a demoulding lubricant in the production of catalysts in the chemical fertilizer industry.
  2. High-temperature resistant lubricant base material, corrosion-resistant lubricant base material.
  3. Powder metallurgy release agent and metal alloy raw materials.
  4. It is used for making carbon film resistance, conductive dry mold, and preparing conductive liquid.
  5. It is used as a filler or performance improver for rubber, plastic, and various composite materials to improve the compression or conductivity of materials.

The larger the sieve number and the smaller the particle size of graphite powder, the better the lubrication performance. It can be used in the production of lubricating materials.

It is from the above points that we can distinguish the difference between high-quality graphite powder and low-quality graphite powder. I hope you can choose high-quality graphite powder and create brilliance together.
